Terrible tragedy at Cork Airport
10 February 2011
by Cllr Joe Costello
I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of a very serious incident at Cork Airport this morning where a Manx2 scheduled flight carrying twelve people crashed while attempting to land in adverse weather conditions.
Early reports indicate that there may be as many as eight fatalities after the turbo-prop plane travelling from Belfast crashed on what was reported to be its third attempt to land in heavy fog. I wish to extend my sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased and I wish the survivors a full and speedy recovery.
Clearly a full inquiry must be held by the Irish Aviation Authority into all the circumstances surrounding this terrible tragedy.
