Joe Costello TD has welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Alan Kelly TD, of 60 new housing units in his Dublin Central Constituency.

Deputy Costello stated that “As part of a major direct build social housing programme, the Government will build 30 new homes at North King Street, Dublin 7, and a further 30 new homes at Infirmary Road/Montpelier Hill, Dublin 7.  €6.4 million will be invested to build the 30 homes at North King Street, while €6.57 million will be invested in the 30 homes at Infirmary Road/Montpelier Hill.  The homes are due to be completed by 2017.

“The move is part of the Government’s social housing strategy, and it will see €312 million invested in an additional 1,700 social housing units and an estimated 3,000 additional jobs in construction created.

“These new Dublin Central homes are in addition to the houses being constructed by the voluntary housing sector, including 45 new senior citizens homes at Dunmanus Court, Cabra, Dublin 7 and the 36 apartments already being planned for North King Street; the social housing that is being delivered through Nama this year, including 21 units in Casteforbes; and the regeneration of existing housing developments, such as the planned redevelopment of 56 units at St. Mary’s Mansions, Dublin 1, and 11 new senior citizens units at St. Agatha’s Court, North William Street, Dublin 1.”
