Costello calls on Natrium to meet with Clerys workers

Dublin Central TD Joe Costello has described the manner in which the Clerys workers have been treated as totally unacceptable.

Deputy Costello was speaking ahead of the Justice for Clerys Workers rally organised by SIPTU taking place at 12pm today outside Clerys.

Deputy Costello commented: “It is unacceptable that the workers were dismissed at such short notice and in such an inhumane way. The hardworking and loyal Clerys workers deserve to be treated better.

“I am calling on representatives of Natrium, the consortium which bought Clerys on Friday and let go up to 460 workers, to immediately meet with the workers and their representatives to negotiate a fair outcome.

“The workers were given just 30 minutes notice that the store was to close and they were to lose their jobs. This is an appalling way to treat workers, some of whom had been working at Clerys for many decades.  I will be raising this matter on Topical Issues in the Dáil today.”
