Costello calls for Garda Resources in Cabra to be reviewed

by Cllr Joe Costello

The attempted murder of a man in Killala Road on Sunday and the injury of a Garda on Tuesday morning in Ratoath Road demonstrate a worrying level of violence and criminality in Cabra.

The serious shooting of a man appears to be related to gangland criminality and drugs, while the stabbing of a Garda with a bottle was connected to the burning of a car and antisocial behaviour.

Cabra is a quiet, settled community, and such criminal activity is alarming to local residents.

I called to the Garda Station in Cabra this morning to express my concerns for the Garda who was attacked. His injuries, thankfully, are superficial and he was released from the Mater Hospital after treatment.

It is imperative that the authorities review the policing resources in Cabra Station and ensure that the full cohort of community policing is operational at all times.
