Special Mater Hospital Demonstration– Third Anniversary

11 May 2006

by Cllr Joe Costello

Members of the Labour Party have maintained a presence outside the Mater Hospital from 1 to 2 p.m. every Saturday for the last three years to highlight the appalling conditions experienced by patients in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit. MH JC.jpg Seriously-ill patients have to sit on chairs and trolleys for days and nights waiting for a bed so that they can receive treatment. No human being should ever be treated like this. We are determined to maintain the weekly protest outside the Mater A&E until the crisis is resolved. On Saturday 27th May we will mark the third anniversary of our protest by having a major demonstration outside the Mater Hospital A&E on the North Circular Road from 1 to 2 p.m. If you are concerned about the state of the A&E Services in hospitals throughout the country and, particularly, in the Mater, if you have a relative or know someone who sat on a chair or lay on a trolley in deplorable conditions for hours or days in the A&E, then you should come along and join us at the hospital on 27th May. The demonstration will be peaceful and dignified. MH BC JC LMM 1.jpg It is time to stand up and be counted. It is time to tell the Minister for Health that this is a national emergency. She must stop wringing her hands and blaming everybody else. She is the Minister. A&E are her responsibility and nobody else’s. Solutions to the A&E crisis are not rocket science. We must have action now. Please join us at 1.00 p.m. on Saturday 27th May and make your voice heard. All are Welcome
