Sean McDermott Street Fundraiser Demonstrates True Christmas Spirit

by Cllr Joe Costello

Today at noon, three families who were rendered homeless by a serious fire at Gloucester Place in Dublin 1 a month ago were given cheques totalling €36,000. The presentation took place in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church, Sean McDermott Street. The money arose from the proceeds of a successful fundraising initiative recently undertaken by the local community in the Sean McDermott Street area.

Labour Deputy Joe Costello, a member of the fundraising committee, said: "I wish to congratulate the local community for the way they rallied around and supported the three families who had lost everything. The money raised will help them get their lives together again after the trauma of the fire and subsequent hospitalisation. It is a welcome Christmas present, and the kindness of the local people who fundraised for their neighbours in their hour of need represents the true spirit of Christmas."
